Jack Dunn
“I have always been inspired by the hard rarified light, the geometric landscape formations, and the vibrant colors of the American Southwest,” Jack says of his inspiration. “It just kept calling me back, I love painting it – it energizes my spirit.”
Self-taught Abstract Expressionist painter Jack Dunn is a true Renaissance man.
In 1976, Jack graduated with an engineering degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, and discovered an interest in painting while serving in Italy as a liaison officer to the Italian Army.
Jack enjoyed very successful military and corporate careers and had the opportunity to live in more than 22 states and 3 countries before settling in New Mexico.
While he was unable to pursue his passion for art during his corporate and military careers, he always harbored a strong desire to paint. Thankfully, Jack followed his dream and began painting in 1989. He has now been painting full-time for more than two decades.
His bold color and lyrical compositions have strong overtones of early 20th-century modernist painters in the style of Fauvism. Jack blends the influence of Marsden Hartley, Kandinsky, and Georgia O’Keeffe into a unique style of his own. He refers to his style as controlled abstraction.
“I have always been inspired by the hard rarified light, the geometric landscape formations, and the vibrant colors of the American Southwest,” Jack says of his inspiration. “It just kept calling me back, I love painting it – it energizes my spirit.”
Jack and his wife Juanita (a successful sculptor) have called Santa Fe home for over 22 years.
For the last ten years, Jack has had very successful one-man shows and has participated in the highly collected “Tres Pintores” group show.
Jack’s work is highly collected and is in many private collections in Europe and North America. We have sold over 400 pieces alone at Acosta Strong. Jack has been featured and reviewed in Western Art Collector and the Santa Fean magazines. Jack’s painting “Heading to the Festival” was selected as the official 2015 Santa Fe Film Festival poster. Jack’s work has been featured in Western Art Collector, Santa Fean, Western Art and Architecture, and the new Santa Fe magazine.
Jack is exclusively represented at Acosta Strong Fine Art in Santa Fe.
