Acosta Strong Fine Art is pleased to present Momentum, a new solo exhibition featuring 14 paintings by Robert E. Reynolds (R.E. Reynolds). Celebrated for his masterful palette-knife technique and vibrant, textured surfaces, Reynolds approaches the Southwestern landscape as a living subject—one filled with movement, light, and possibility.

The title Momentum speaks to the energy running through each canvas. In these new paintings, expansive skies unfold over distant mountain ranges, rivers move through sunlit canyons, and fleeting moments in nature take on a sense of permanence through bold color and expressive composition.

Painting as an Act of Discovery

For Reynolds, a painting is never merely a faithful description of a place. He follows the rhythm of the landscape, allowing each mark of the palette knife to guide the next. Broad passages of paint and thick, sculptural textures give his work a sense of immediacy—an invitation to experience the sky, wind, color, and terrain alongside the artist.

The exhibition spans intimate studies and large-scale paintings, revealing the many ways Reynolds responds to the natural world. Works such as Late Afternoon and Late Summer Eve capture subtle changes in atmosphere, while Invitation, Morning Invitation, and Evening Thunderhead explore the drama of open skies. Other works draw viewers toward waterways, mesas, and distant peaks with the distinctive depth and movement of his impasto surfaces.

A dedicated plein air painter, Reynolds draws inspiration from the landscapes of Northern New Mexico and the greater West. Born in Colorado, he earned his BFA from Colorado State University and his MFA from Santiniketan University in India. His paintings bring this rich experience together with a spontaneous, intuitive connection to nature.

Acosta Strong Fine Art is proud to present A Passion for Painting Since 1977, a solo exhibition celebrating the extraordinary career of American painter Gregory Frank Harris. For nearly five decades, Harris has followed an enduring fascination with light, color, atmosphere, and the possibilities of painting.

From impressionistic landscapes and richly colored New Mexico vistas to intimate portraits and bird-filled scenes, Harris’s art reflects a life of curiosity and experimentation. A Lifetime Dedicated to Painting

Born in California in 1953, Harris showed artistic talent from an early age, exploring drawing, sculpture, music, and theater. A pivotal moment came in 1977, when he encountered John Rewald’s The History of Impressionism while working as a professional musician. Inspired by the Impressionists, he began experimenting with painting techniques that would guide the course of his career.

Over the decades, Harris expanded his practice through traditional realism, plein air painting, and contemporary approaches to abstraction. That openness to different styles remains one of the defining qualities of his work.

Featured in Western Art Collector: “Five Decades”

The October 2026 issue of Western Art Collector features Harris and this exhibition in “Five Decades,” by Michael Clawson. The editorial considers Harris’s nearly 50-year career and his ability to move among realism, impressionism, and modernist approaches.

Santa Fe’s historic Canyon Road has long been a haven for world-class art, but few stories woven into its adobe walls are as vibrant, fearless, and breathtaking as that of Evelyne Boren. This season, Acosta Strong Fine Art is honored to present “Blossoms Without Borders,” a milestone exhibition celebrating Evelyne’s 87th birthday and her extraordinary lifetime of artistic mastery.

A Life Written in Adventure and Light

Long before her name became synonymous with impressionistic light and color, Evelyne Boren was making history in front of the lens. Born in Munich, Germany, her life reads like an adventure novel. Before picking up a paintbrush full-time, she worked as an underwater stunt double in iconic James Bond films like Thunderball and You Only Live Twice, trained dolphins for Flipper, and made international history as the first woman to swim with a killer whale on film.

It was during a filming location in the Bahamas in 1962 that the turning point occurred. Enraptured by the lush colors and dazzling sunlight dancing on the ocean, Evelyne felt a profound calling to capture the beauty of the natural world on canvas. That moment sparked a dedicated artistic journey that now spans over six decades and more than 4,000 original paintings in private and corporate collections worldwide.

True to its title, “Blossoms Without Borders” is a feast of color that knows no geographic or creative boundaries. Splitting her time between her studios in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and the sun-drenched coastal enclave of Sayulita, Mexico, Evelyne brings an unmistakable energy and joy to every subject she touches.

On November 28th, 2025, Acosta Strong Fine Art Gallery will open its doors for LUMINARIA, a powerful collaborative exhibition that brings together two of New Mexico’s most compelling contemporary artists: Max Baptiste and Esteban Ismael Durán. Through distinct mediums, shared cultural roots, and a deep reverence for place, Baptiste and Durán illuminate the past and present of the Southwest in ways that feel both timeless and boldly innovative.

A Meeting of Origins and Vision

Though they come from different corners of New Mexico, Baptiste and Durán share a bond shaped by heritage, lived experience, and a commitment to honoring the landscapes and cultures that shaped them.

Max Baptiste: Minimalism, Memory, and the Western Lens

Born in Taos and raised in the quiet valley of San Cristobal, Max Baptiste carries the imagery of northern New Mexico in his bones. Before exhibiting his own artwork, Baptiste built an impressive multidisciplinary career—developing video games, producing large-scale art installations, and curating institutional exhibitions. These experiences sharpened his eye for detail, structure, and narrative.

Now, with his series of contemporary Western paintings on glass, Baptiste offers a distilled visual language. His work embraces minimalism as a form of storytelling—reducing iconic Southwestern forms to their essential shapes and tones. The translucence of glass becomes symbolic: memory, light, and geography all shift depending on the viewer’s angle. His paintings reveal the simplicity and silence of the high desert, the geometry of mesas, and the color fields of a region he has known intimately since childhood.

Esteban Ismael Durán: Tradition Reimagined Through Modern Craft

Albuquerque-born Esteban Ismael Durán grew up in Old Town, surrounded by a vibrant artistic community. His early mentorship in tinwork from the late master craftsman Ted Arellanes sparked a lifelong commitment to hand-driven craft, innovation, and mixed media expression.

Durán’s career spans museum acquisitions, county and city public art commissions, and a remarkable chapter in the Pacific Northwest with Michael Curry Design, where he helped create masks and puppets for Disney’s The Lion King productions on Broadway and global stages. This work honed his skills in sculptural engineering, form, and storytelling through movement.

Since returning to New Mexico in 2016, Durán has continued to push boundaries. His work incorporates repurposed materials, layered textures, and a distinct interplay between tradition and experimentation—reflecting both his heritage and an ever-evolving creative curiosity.

The Collaboration: Light, TIN, and a Shared Sense of Place

LUMINARIA marks a striking new collaboration between Baptiste and Durán—one that unites modern minimal Western paintings on glass with handcrafted, artistically engineered tin frames. Though their mediums differ dramatically, both artists are shaped by New Mexico’s landscapes, traditions, and visual rhythms.

At the heart of the exhibition are Baptiste’s contemporary works: clean, distilled compositions on glass that interpret the West through shape, light, and intentional simplicity. These luminous pieces take on new dimension when housed within Durán’s meticulously crafted tin frames. Drawing on New Mexican tinwork traditions yet infused with his own sculptural sensibility, Durán creates frames that are not merely borders—they are extensions of the artwork itself.

Together, the glass and tin form a unified object:
transparency paired with metal,
minimalism grounded by craft,
the modern West held within the language of tradition.

The title LUMINARIA speaks to this fusion. Just as luminarias glow against the winter dark, these works radiate—light passing through glass, catching the patterned surfaces of tin, and reflecting the shared heritage of two artists in dialogue.

Their collaborative pieces explore:

how traditional tinwork can elevate and contextualize contemporary art
the interplay of light, reflection, and patterned metal
the spirit and architecture of the New Mexican landscape
a living lineage of craft, reimagined for the modern West
